Orthodontics in Ooty
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that corrects the position of teeth and the way the upper and lower jaws meet. At RC's Dentcare on Commercial Road, Upper Bazar, treatment starts with a full set of records — examination, photographs, models and radiographs where needed — so the appliance is chosen for your bite rather than the other way round.

Crooked teeth are rarely just a cosmetic issue
Most people come to us because a tooth sits forward, a gap has opened up, or a child's front teeth have come through at an angle. What is easy to miss is that the bite behind those teeth is usually doing something too — an overbite that traps the lower lip, a crossbite that wears one side faster, or crowding that makes a molar impossible to clean properly.
That is why we never quote a treatment on a photograph. Alignment that looks fine from the front can still be loading a joint unevenly for the next twenty years.
What waiting actually costs
Crowded teeth collect plaque in places a brush cannot reach, so decay and gum inflammation follow. Worn edges do not grow back. In growing children, a jaw discrepancy that could have been guided with a simple appliance at ten may need a longer, more complex plan at eighteen.
None of this is a reason to panic. It is a reason to get assessed rather than keep putting it off for another year.
How we plan treatment at RC's Dentcare
As a dedicated orthodontic centre we work through the same sequence for every patient: assessment, records, a written plan with options and expected duration, then regular adjustment visits. You will know before anything is bonded what appliance is proposed, roughly how long it will take, and what retention will look like afterwards.
Retention is part of the plan from day one, not an afterthought. Teeth that have been moved will drift back if nothing holds them, and we would rather tell you that at the start.
If you would like a straightforward opinion on whether treatment is worth it in your case, tell us what is bothering you and we will take it from there.

Orthodontics in Ooty — common questions
- What age should a child first be assessed for orthodontics?
- An early assessment around seven to nine years is useful because the permanent front teeth and first molars are in place and any jaw growth discrepancy is visible. Assessment does not mean treatment starts then — often we simply monitor.
- How long does orthodontic treatment usually take?
- It depends entirely on the case. Simple alignment can take several months; a full bite correction commonly runs one to two years. We give you an estimated range after the records appointment, not before.
- Do I need to be referred to visit an orthodontic centre?
- No. You can contact RC's Dentcare directly for an assessment in Ooty.
- Will I need to wear a retainer forever?
- Some form of long-term retention is recommended for almost everyone, though wear time usually reduces over the years. We explain the retention plan before treatment begins.
