Teeth Cleaning in Ooty

Professional teeth cleaning removes plaque, hardened calculus and surface stain from above and below the gumline using ultrasonic and hand instruments, followed by polishing. At RC's Dentcare in Ooty this is combined with a gum health assessment and practical coaching on the areas your brushing is missing.

Brushing well is not the same as brushing everywhere

Plaque hardens into calculus within a couple of days, and once it has, no toothbrush will shift it. It builds fastest on the inside of the lower front teeth and around the upper back molars — exactly the two places a brush reaches worst.

This is why people who genuinely brush twice a day still have deposits. It is a matter of access, not effort.

What deposits do if they stay

Calculus holds bacteria against the gum permanently. The gum responds with inflammation — redness, bleeding, bad breath — and if that inflammation continues, the bone supporting the tooth begins to recede. Bone does not grow back.

The teeth themselves are rarely the problem in adults who lose teeth. The support around them is.

How the appointment works

We assess your gum condition and the level of deposits first, then remove plaque and calculus with ultrasonic and hand scaling, including below the gumline where needed. Surfaces are then polished so deposits build up more slowly.

The last part is the part that changes things: we show you where the deposits actually were and adjust your brushing and interdental cleaning accordingly.

If your gums bleed when you brush, a cleaning appointment is the right place to start.

Teeth Cleaning in Ooty — common questions

Does scaling damage or loosen teeth?
No. Scaling removes deposits, not tooth structure. Teeth can feel different afterwards because the calculus that was splinting them is gone, but the cleaning has not loosened them.
Is cleaning painful?
It is usually comfortable. If gums are inflamed or roots exposed, there can be sensitivity, and we can use local anaesthesia for deeper cleaning.
How often should I have my teeth cleaned?
Every six to twelve months suits most people; those with gum disease need more frequent maintenance visits.
Will cleaning whiten my teeth?
It removes surface stain, which often makes teeth look noticeably brighter, but it does not change the underlying natural shade — that is what whitening does.
