Bonding in Ooty
Composite bonding repairs or reshapes a tooth using a tooth-coloured resin that is sculpted directly onto the tooth and hardened with a curing light. At RC's Dentcare in Ooty it is used for chipped edges, small gaps and worn corners, usually in one appointment and with little or no removal of natural tooth structure.

The small flaw you notice in every photograph
A corner chipped off a front tooth years ago. A narrow gap between the two centrals. An edge that has worn shorter than the tooth beside it. None of these hurt, none are urgent, and all of them are the first thing their owner sees in a photograph.
Bonding exists precisely for this category of problem — real enough to be worth fixing, too small to justify a crown.
Why the alternatives are often overkill
The reflex answer to a chipped front tooth is a veneer or a crown, but both require cutting healthy enamel away permanently. For a small defect, that is a large irreversible step to solve a small reversible problem.
Leaving the chip alone has its own cost: a sharp edge catches the lip, and an exposed area of dentine wears and stains faster than the enamel around it.
What the appointment involves
We match the composite shade to your natural tooth in good light, prepare the surface minimally, then place and shape the composite in layers, curing each one. The final stage is contouring and polishing so the restoration catches the light like enamel rather than sitting flat.
Composite is repairable and adjustable, which is part of the appeal — if it chips in five years, we add to it rather than start again.
Send us a photograph or simply describe the chip or gap, and we will tell you whether bonding is the right fix.

Bonding in Ooty — common questions
- How long does bonding last?
- Commonly several years, depending on where it is and how you use your teeth. It can be polished, repaired and added to rather than replaced wholesale.
- Does bonding stain?
- Composite picks up stain more readily than ceramic, particularly with heavy tea, coffee or tobacco use. Regular polishing keeps it looking fresh.
- Is any tooth removed?
- Usually little or none — the surface is lightly prepared so the composite bonds well. That is what makes bonding a conservative option.
- Can bonding close a gap between my front teeth?
- Small gaps, yes. Larger spaces are often better closed with orthodontics first, otherwise the teeth end up looking too wide.
